Dentures

If you have a larger quantity of missing teeth,

we can explore the use of dentures.

What are Dentures?

Dentures are artificial teeth, usually made from acrylic (plastic), nylon, or metal, that are removable. They are designed to fit securely and snap into place over the gums, replacing missing teeth and addressing aesthetic and functional issues associated with gaps in the mouth.

These can come in the form of complete dentures, replacing all upper and/or lower teeth, or in the form of partial dentures, which replace a smaller number of missing teeth.

What to Expect

As per our standard procedures, our dentists will start the process by conducting a thorough consultation with you. This will let them assess your goals and wants from the treatment, and allow them to craft a plan specific to you.

From there, the dentist will then discuss the available options with you. The next steps are then to take a dental impression, to ensure that we create a denture that fits snugly in your mouth. This impression will then be used to create a dental model.

The dentist will work together with you to customise the dentures to suit your preferences, and will assist in any adjustments needed to ensure the optimum fit.

F.A.Q.s

How do I maintain my dentures?

Dentures do require good care and maintenance in order to maintain their condition. This will normally include:

  • Removing dentures at the end of every day.

  • Cleaning the dentures with a special brush and past.

  • Soaking the dentures in a denture solution overnight.

  • Brushing the inside of the mouth thoroughly twice a day to ensure debris does not get trapped under the dentures.

How long can my dentures last?

Dentures last between 7–10 years on average. At that point, patients often require replacement dentures.

Dentures should also be relined every year or two in order to ensure the most optimum fit is maintained.

What are some alternatives to dentures?

Dentures may not be the best fit for some people. In those cases, we recommend looking at:

  • Dental implants, which last longer than dentures but involves a more invasive procedure.

  • Dental bridges, which involves bonding crowns to your natural teeth and using artificial space to fill in the gaps in your smile.
